State CPA societies joined state lawmakers and political campaign consultants to discuss how the profession can help more CPAs get elected to political office at a meeting sponsored by the AICPA State Regulation and Legislation Team on July 13 in Naples, Fla.

Attendees from over 20 state CPA societies discussed issues related to crafting a campaign plan, fundraising, and interacting with the media.  Florida House of Representatives Speaker Pro Tempore Matt Hudson, Florida State Rep. Cyndi Stevenson, CPA, Illinois State Rep. Natalie Manley, CPA, Katie Biggica of The WS Group, and Brett Doster of Front Line Strategies shared stories from the campaign trail and helped state CPA societies draft sample campaign plans.

During the event, the AICPA State Regulation and Legislation Team also filmed a panel discussion for CPAs who are considering running for political office.  The video, which will be available on the Team’s website in upcoming weeks, will include information on building a network of supporters, hiring a campaign manager, branding oneself as a CPA candidate, gaining endorsements, winning a primary election, generating funds, and more.
